The AI Mirror Test🪞

Welcome! I recently got asked the following question and can’t stop thinking about it: “If you want it bad enough, you’ll find a way. If not, you’ll find an excuse.”
For years, I always made an excuse for not strength training.
I don’t have time; only dudes do it; consistent 10K+ steps and yoga are good enough. Blah, blah, blah. Boring excuses.
Ever since I heard that quote, I haven’t missed a single strength training session. What in your life have you been settling for? And… what can you do to change it? I’m cheering you on as I write this.
Ok, that’s the motivational moment of the day.
Let’s get to some juicy posts.🧃

The AI Mirror Test
The "mirror test" is a classic test used to gauge whether animals are self-aware. I devised a version of it to test for self-awareness in multimodal AI. 4 of 5 AI that I tested passed, exhibiting apparent self-awareness as the test unfolded.

I’m not surprised this post has 3.3M views. Two nights ago, I heard Josh speak and left the event in shock at how fast AI is advancing.

I’ve heard about candidates doing this but have never seen it! How fascinating. Are you currently seeing “image attacks”? If yes, what are you doing to prevent it from happening?

This video is haunting. I’m currently at the director level. Thankfully, we are the CEOs of our lives and can always take action steps towards what we want to create (the promotion we want, the company we want to build, etc).
The video is also a great reminder to see the big picture instead of just the details. 🖼

Naval speaks to my soul. If I could be stuck in an elevator with anyone in the world, it would be him.
Sidenote: It’s SO easy to ask everyone for an opinion but not listen to your own. I say this as someone who runs countless surveys (eNPS, Pulse, onboarding, etc.). To mitigate this in my personal life, I use this Decision Survey when making big decisions. It’s a game-changer.

One could consider rejection a form of “failure.” I’m a bit weird in how I track every. single. one. Why? It gamifies it and gives me a moment to ask what I can learn from it.
Last year, I had 280 rejections.
My goal for this year is 800+. 🥅
More rejections = more successes. 🙌

Sidenote: I used to live in Thailand. The gesture she’s doing is common when you say hello (S̄wạs̄dī) and goodbye (sà-wàt-dii khâ). It’s considered a form of respect.
