Millionaire💰to McDonalds 🍔

Welcome 🎉
Usually, I love writing this newsletter. Tonight though, I’m tired and honestly don’t want to write.
But… I’m showing up because I care about you.
Yes, you! The person reading this.
I know it sounds corny…
#1 🌽
Founder of Meetup.com, Scott Heiferman, sold a company for $15M and then got a job at McDonalds.
Meetup (the third company he exited) was built from Scott’s McDonald’s learnings. This article describes his analysis of the dollar menu. 🤣
He’s now exited Meetup.com. His next job? Front-line employee at Amazon. Fascinating. 😮
2 takeaways:
Don’t be afraid to do things that seem weird. It could have a massive payoff.
You can learn something from anyone (yes! Even the person who gives you a Happy Meal).
#2 🌽
If you spend too much time with people who don't have any ambitions, you'll soon lack the fire to excel.

The opposite is also true. I’ve always been driven. Moving to SF, though, has turbo-charged that drive. Being surrounded by people who tenaciously shape reality is invigorating and exciting. 🚀

#3 🌽

Am I learning more from them than they’re learning from me?
What are the qualitative and quantitative metrics the person tracks related to the role?
Would this person raise the bar of the team?
#4 🌽
Navigating "corporate speak" isn't easy.
Here's a helpful guide I put together:
"Let me check with my team" = No
"Possibly" = No
"On my roadmap" = Not happening
"This will be done in Q4" = This will be done in Q2 next year
"Disagree and commit" = I hate you
"Per my last… x.com/i/web/status/1…

Don’t judge me for including another one from Chris. I couldn’t resist. 😂
(if you don’t get this joke, just read the first part of last week’s newsletter!)
#5 🌽
“A Washington State University study found that people are less likely to buy products with AI in the product description.
When faced with a choice between an AI-powered product or a “dumb” version, we all mostly want the “dumber” versions.”

Fascinating study! I was NOT expecting that.
