What makes people feel important? 👀

Welcome! Today’s newsletter is candy for the brain. Why? We’re featuring 5 scroll-stopping posts. You may laugh or cry. Or…both. 😂

Let’s get to it!

#1 🍭

For some weird reason, I’ve always liked working. I can remember, as a 15-year-old, getting my first job at Sonic as a Carhop. All the Carhops wore rollerblades and brought slushies and chili fries to hungry people. I loved every minute of it. Except maybe the sticky slushie residue, the farmer tan, and the 5 pounds I gained eating too many Oreo Cookie Blasts. 🍨

The sad part was that my feet were too big for the rollerblades (size 11), so I had to walk while everyone else skated. 😂

What age did you start working?

If you could see my facial expression after looking at Amy’s profile (click on the resume, and you’ll see her LinkedIn), you’d see that my jaw literally dropped with admiration and respect. How does she have time to sleep? Not sure. What a legend. 😱

We couldn’t agree more with his post. Let’s put the heart into hiring. 💙

Sidenote: I don’t believe AI will ever 100% replace humans. Can you imagine having AI call you to say you got the job? I would be sad but happy to pick up the phone. 📲

#4 🍭

The #1 thing I notice about top performers is they have one word in common: obsession. They are fierce. At the gym, in the shower, and on a walk, they can’t help but think about what they love doing (oftentimes their work). It’s like an addiction. And... they feel a hit when they do the thing.

#5 🍭

I used to want people to tell me I’m important. If you asked, I wouldn’t tell you that. But… I did. Everything changed when I realized I was missing the point. Life is about adding value. Boatloads of value. And… helping people realize they are important is valuable.

You and I won’t be here in 120 years. Parts of us may still be (digital immortality?), but our physical bodies won’t be. That long laugh with a loved one and the handwritten thank you note from Joe (the developer who took WAY too long to hire)—those moments are what life is about. 🤲🏼

I take it one step further and track every single week of my life. I have a picture in my living room with 5,217 little boxes (100 years = 5,217 weeks). Every week, I color in one box and ask myself if I’m living a life I’m proud of. It’s sobering and the most powerful 5 minutes of every week. ⏳
